Jewish Family Service Acquires Cedar Village Home Care

New Day for Senior Home Care in Jewish Cincinnati

Jewish Family Service is now providing personal caregiving services through the acquisition of Cedar Village Home Care. Renamed “StarPoint Home Care,” caregivers are available 24/7 to help seniors with daily living activities, so they feel comfortable, secure, and independent while remaining in familiar surroundings. Cedar Village Home Care was not included in the sale of Cedar Village to its new owner. Bringing it to Jewish Family Service as “StarPoint Home Care” is an example of the community working together. One goal of this partnership is to ensure current clients continue to receive necessary services without interruption.

Helping Seniors; Investing in the Community

Profits from StarPoint Home Care also will help fund the mission of Jewish Family Service. Since 1945, the Cincinnati community has relied on Jewish Family Service to strengthen lives in time of need, including those of seniors. This human services agency helps Holocaust survivors live with dignity, offers activities for vulnerable adults at its Barbash Family Vital Support Center, provides food for those experiencing financial difficulties at its Heldman Family Food Pantry, and directs seniors to community resources through AgeWell Cincinnati.

The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati and the former owners of Cedar Village, The Jewish Home of Cincinnati, provided essential funding to launch StarPoint Home Care. Board members from The Jewish Home also serve as advisors to the new organization.

StarPoint caregivers can broaden the nature of experiences seniors have by helping them with basic transportation.

From Kosher Meals to Medical Appointments; From Shopping to Shabbat

StarPoint Home Care is steeped in Jewish culture and traditions. Caregivers can prepare meals following kosher dietary laws, and Jewish Family Service will be providing special training to help team members serve the unique needs of Holocaust survivors.

“Our caregivers escort clients to Shabbat services, medical appointments, and on shopping excursions as well as assisting with activities of daily living,” said [former] StarPoint Home Care Director Kathy Schulze, who has led the team since 2014. “We offer the peace of mind of guaranteed coverage, a 24/7 on-call scheduler, robust background checks and insurance. We lift that work from the shoulders of worried family members enabling clients to live with security and dignity.”  Caregivers assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, shopping, light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation and much more.
